The difference between machine embroidery and hand embroidery

Embroidery is an enjoyable art that enables you to add custom finishes to a wide range of textiles. Both machine embroidery and hand embroidery are interesting but require different skills, equipment, and accessories.

Hand embroidery has been practiced since ancient times. Embroidery needle, thread, fabric, and frames are the only accessories required for hand embroidery. Machine embroidery is divided into two parts, which are hand-guided stitching and programmed machine embroidery. For machine embroidery, you will need an embroidery-only machine or a machine with combined sewing and embroidery features, thread, needles, hoops, fabric, and bobbin thread.

Must have accessories for machine embroidery

Machine embroidery essentials

We have discussed some of the pre-requisite requirements of machine embroidery in our previous article here. Here we are continuing the rest of the list.

Bobbin thread

Unlike sewing machines, we don’t use the same floss for bobbins and needles in embroidery. It is because the bobbin thread doesn’t need to match the needle thread as it doesn’t appear on the visible part of the design. You may use white or black bobbin thread, which is lighter.
